MVW and Valee’s odd couple pairing of new classical prodigy and street surrealist continues to take rap fans beyond the clouds, with “Yo Yo” providing a leveled out safe space to escape the blunt up and downs of modern life. Immaculately stoned plug trapper Tony Shhnow pops up to bestow the benefits of a life “married to the money” and not sharing his weed with strangers, while the way Valee rides MVW's blitzed out keys with a luxurious flow makes him sound like he’s rocking slides, reclining in a hammock somewhere in Barbados. It’s this kind of carefree vibe that makes “Yo Yo” so addictive.

The artist known as MVW (aka Michael Vincent Waller) is also putting the finishing touches to an upcoming collaborative album with regular collaborator Valee, with their chemistry resulting in new music that could just well turn out to be the pair’s magnum opus. Under MVW’s experimental soundscapes, Valee is free to bend the pitch of his flow at will, in this stunning new collection of songs

“Valee is the perfect match,” agrees Waller. “The way he approaches my beats? He sounds like incense smoke on the mic. We are creating something that’s going to have a real impact.”

Yo Yo marks the first single from their new project, and gets the proverbial wheels turning!

Having initially broken out as a minimalist composer (2019’s contemporary classical opus Moments was described by Pitchfork in a 7.8 review as “stunning” and “cathartic”), the musician took a bold leap into the world of rap with the release of 2020’s CLASSIC$ LP, which in truth sounded like Mozart had he grown up in the trap with Lex Luger and Metro Boomin. It was followed by 2022’s CONNECTIONS, which featured an innovative list of rappers including Valee, TiaCorine, Matt Ox, Xavier Wulf, Desiigner, Lil Gotit, and Zelooperz.

And in 2023 MVW is prepping a follow-up project as well a full collaborative album with Valee, an artist whose mysterious flow he describes as “moving like incense smoke”.

With one eye to the future, MVW concludes: “Rap music has always been organically avant-garde. This is just the start for me.”
